Torino makes cover…

As I write this blog I’m in the middle of shooting 6 cars for American Car Mag … As with pretty much all these American cars the 68 Torino GT was great to look at and had a great shape. I’m sure I’ve mentioned this before but for me the location can make or break the shoot / final images. I’m always looking for ‘urban’, ‘industrial’, ‘gritty’ backdrops for these cars. This location was based about 30 miles from the car but thanks to the owner he was really willing to travel and make the best possible use of this …

Behind the Lens – MG Midget

On the shoot for Practical Classic magazine, as well as the owner and myself we had Neil with us (senior writer for PC who came to interview the owner and also to keep an eye on me 😉 I asked him to grab a few shots of me in action so I can include some more ‘Behind the Lens’ articles. You don’t see many images of me…but at least this one has my best side!!! The resulting image of that set up is below… Straight forward shot. Another shot of the set up… I mainly use a couple of Speedlights …

‘Reader Resto’ shoot makes Cover

My first shoot for Practical Classic magazine was a little MG Midget restoration based only 20 mins away… #Happydays! The day was booked were all three parties involved were available… With the weather being the best day of a bad looking bunch on the weather sites. At best we were looking for no rain and true enough it was dry. Unfortunately we were left with a flat white sky… the kind that I don’t like… the kind I don’t like to shoot. I much prefer rain clouds that have some definition in them… Anyway we set off to capturing the …

‘Behind the Camera’ – Volvo

Another behind the camera post…this time with some images taken by a good friend (lets call him Richard) whose been mentioned in my blog before….(the focus driver) I wanted to match the location to the car as normal…to try and place the car in a ‘comfortable’ location which is fitting for the car or story. Richard has his own business (creating Apps – Appware) on an office park with some good ‘modern’ looking buildings that fit the bill. It was a tad touch and go for the weather on this one but the clouds broke and the sun came out…happy …

Morgan Motor Company … Factory life in 1999

Think this formed part of my photography degree work…back in the day. Don’t think these images have ever gone out of date due to the nature of the Malvern factory and Morgan Moror Co. I was there for a couple of days with my old medium format film camera with B&W film (plus I took about 20 images on colour film) just capturing the life and goings on in the factory as I saw it. I love the power of photography and capturing a moment that is then recorded for history. The older the images get the more captivating they …

The location was a wash out…..”do we have a Plan B”?

Well the shoot was booked for Sunday just gone after three other locations at the end of 2013 all pulled the plug a few days before the shoot date. Forecast for rain but still went ahead as this shoot was penciled in for a previous issue, we had to get something in the bag. The location was in the heart of Manchester…an old disused railway. Any weather would have done…apart from rain. There was a clear spell forecast but in the end it never came. Plan B… I had 20mins to spare before the car turned up on a low …

Next shoot for American Car mag this weekend…

Always like to have a rece for a shoot before hand to get a feel of the place.  Try and get a few angles sorted and plan as much as possible what order of shots are needed. Went a few weeks ago to have a look at this place. … For the record the car in the spotlight is a 1971 Camaro… Finding a location that fits the car for me is just as important as the angle of shot etc…. Urban, rough, gritty feel is what I’m hoping for.  The last shoot for thismag made Febs cover (which I’ll …
