From crash testing to 800bhp

Knowing I had an epic restoration shoot I set off with the type of images / ideas and kit I needed. Not knowing what car the subject was I was in for a shock. Once I eventually found the right building as I drove past it as there was no signage, or give away clues to it being anything to do with the automotive world. I was told that it had some special cars… The first glimpse of anything out of the ordinary was two silver front nose’s of a couple of XJ220’s. Seeing one is always a good sight …

10 cars…2 miles of runway…. lets play

Bit late in posting this blog but just a tad busy lately… It was a pleasure to be asked to shoot the cover for the 1st edition of a new magazine… Modern Classics. Concentrating on cars in the 90s-2000s, which for me was my era. I remember sitting with my mate Andy on Durham Rd, Sunderland with our usual fried rice, chips and gravy from the local Chinese take-away in the early 90s watching the world go by but mainly car watching… happydays… I digress… the day was sunny and warm and we had the 2 miles of Bruntingthorpe runway …

Rare Ginetta – going strong

A ‘Life Cycle’ shoot for Classic Car Magazine… The G23 was an early prototype for Ginetta, this particular chassis number is No.2. Its been owned by the same owners since they bought it from Ginetta. Recently undergoing a full re-build with alot of the work undertaken by the owners… Not so much to shoot here, alot of old 6×4’s and old car magazines it has appeared in previously. A few rig shots for an opener and a few statics to give a flavor of the car now. Not one of the images used but the engine bay was tidy with …

Nurburg Old Timer 2015

Not the best of weather for my second trip to Nurburg in as many months but at least the rain stopped after 20mins… On a slightly larger scale than Spa Classic but not as big as Silverstone Classic Nurburg had some good points. Track-side you could get close to the action on turn 1 and 2 of the old GP track. The pit lane is really wide with plenty of access, plus it has a loud siren when a car enters the pit-lane to give you heads up before you either get flattened or you get a Marshall shouting at …

Silverstone Classic 2015

Just one day visit to the 25th Anniversary of the Silverstone Classic. Just there for the Saturday to capture the event for the same client as Nurburg24, Le Mans 24, Spa Classic & Silverstone F1. This ‘THINK’ got me thinking…. was it there to double check your gear selection or not to turn right! …who knows, but caught my eye… For me its seeing all the historic and recent modern cars all in one day that for me is a great day and one for every automotive lover. From the master series and historic racing through to the crazy Group …

Quick visit to Silverstone F1 2015

Another motor event to go along with Spa Classic, Nurburg24, LeMans and soon to be Silverstone Classic for the same client. Again were not mainly concentrating on documenting the race itself but the event and experience you can have. Capturing a few of the hospitality suites and general atmosphere was the target for the day. Here’s just a few images to give you a flavor… Suite at Woodcote with its own standing area overlooking the National Pit Straight and pit lane. An event to enjoy the whole weekend and take in the sights and sounds of F1, GPseries, Porsche GT3 …

Series 1 Landrover Resto

A quick article for Landrover Owner International which we documented that saw a 1st time restoration project. This was at the time I shot it the nearest magazine shoot to me…which was a nice change. We ended up doing the tracking shots about 2 miles from my house, as that was the only roads I knew well enough that would be quiet enough to hopefully get some images. For me I was happy with the results from these tracking shots. A bit of post work to give them something as the day was damp, foggy and really flat. I can’t …

LRM – May Cover

(Little late in posting this one…. but here goes) Trip down to the Norfolk north coast was in order to shoot the 3 soft top Land Rovers to mark the start of summer… The sky was blue, the sun was out but…. while waiting for the vehicles to arrive the clouds came in slowly which was not the best to try and show the start of summer. To catch what was let of the sun and blue sky we got straight on to shoot the cover. The first bay we got moved on which didn’t help the cause. We eventually …

Camaro – ACM July Cover Shoot

Shot back in Sept 2014, I’m pleased it has made it to a cover. Looking for a suitable location in the middle of North Yorkshire was as ever the first stage for an ACM shoot. This particular location was an old Army camp with those buildings that can be described as oil barrels cut in half length ways and on its side. The air-field has long since gone and these buildings are the last remaining visual evidence of army activity within the area. Currently the buildings are used as pigsties…interesting to say the least. The owner was very accommodating but …

Le Mans 24hr 2015

The latest motor sport event covered for my client… which was the same for Spa Classic & Nurburg24. Unlike the last two events we were late in getting press accreditation so it was more of a fact finding trip and to grab what imagery we could. Instantly the Le Mans 24hr felt bigger than Nurburg…. well apart from the track distance! Not sure if this was an Aston Martin parade which was lined up early Saturday morning but was the closet the general public got to some of the cars which were in the starting line-up. It was baking on …
